This dress is an oldie for me–I made it way back in college, and wore it at one of my summer jobs. It doesn’t feel fresh and exciting anymore, but I still love wearing it, over a decade later. The dress is McCalls’s 8753, in a linen-look fabric.
It’s an easy style to sew and wear. It has just two deep darts for fitting, and the beautiful foldover collar is simple to make as well.
Now that I’m no longer a summer-job receptionist, I should probably stitch up the side slits a bit. Someday.
What you’re not seeing in the photo is one of my best rookie mistakes. When putting in the zipper, I thought I had to account for an additional 5/8″.
So the zipper stop, when fully zipped, sits 5/8″ below the finished edge.
I’m not a perfectionist, so it stayed in. I figure it’s in the back, so I don’t have to see it. Now, if I would just stop pointing it out to everyone, that would really help.
